Hyoyeon from the group Girls' Generation shared her feelings about negative comments regarding her appearance during her debut days.
On the 16th, Hyoyeon appeared on the YouTube channel 'Jjanhan Hyung' alongside member Seohyun, showcasing their conversation skills. The two discussed the hardships they faced during their time in Girls' Generation.
When asked by Shin Dong-yeob, "You were young when you debuted, but did you suffer from negative reactions?" Hyoyeon replied, "I was really sad. They kept saying things about my face, but I was really popular. However, I admit I looked a bit fierce. But they criticized me for how I looked," she said.
In response, Seohyun pointed out, "It wasn't about how you looked. There were so many antis back then, and since we were dancing hard, we couldn't always look pretty. The antis captured moments when we danced excessively and criticized us for that."
Hyoyeon mentioned, "I couldn't help but be judged by my appearance, but I vowed to overcome it with my skills. I thought, 'You guys have no discerning eye,'" recalling her upsetting memories.
Hyoyeon debuted in 2007 as a member of Girls' Generation under SM Entertainment and gained popularity. She debuted as a member specialized in dance rather than vocals, taking on the role of the main dancer in the group. At that time, she suffered from various negative comments about her appearance but elevated her status with her exceptional dance and vocal skills.
She is currently active as a DJ under the stage name 'HYO.'
