The second season of 'HyungSuda' covers a kidnapping case that shocked South Korea, where a teacher gaslighted and committed kidnapping and murder against a student.
In the 11th episode of the E Channel original web entertainment 'HyungSuda' Season 2 (hereafter 'HyungSuda2'), which will be released on the YouTube channel 'Criminals' Chat' on the 3rd, former judge-turned-lawyer Jung Jae-min and singer Jeon Hyo-sung will appear as guests.
This broadcast will focus on the 'Death Row' episode, telling the stories of death row inmates in South Korea, highlighting the shocking Joo Young-hyung case that horrified the nation in the 1980s.
The incident begins with an urgent kidnapping report. The victim, a boy named Yoon-sang, had a physical disability due to polio he suffered in childhood but grew up to be a model student. After running an errand to a bookstore near his home, he went missing, and soon after, a threatening phone call was received.
The caller, identifying themselves as a four-member kidnapping gang recently released from prison, threatened, "Prepare 40 million won." They tightened their grip on the parents through phone calls and letters, even instructing Yoon-sang's sister to bring the money directly. During the investigation, it was revealed that they had attempted to kidnap the sister as well.
On the 106th day of his disappearance, wanted posters were distributed nationwide, and the parents even published a letter of appeal to the criminals in the newspaper. As the nation focused on the case, it was confirmed that Yoon-sang had been trying to meet with his middle school physical education teacher at the time.
The teacher, who arrived late to the meeting place, stated that since Yoon-sang was not there, he went to attend a graduate school class. The investigation team looked into around 700 people close to the parents and over 16,000 known offenders, but no suspects were found. Although fingerprints were found on the threatening letters, none matched the investigation subjects.
A year after the disappearance, the investigation team called in a famous hypnotist from Japan to help retrieve memories from that day, during which a crucial clue was captured. The perpetrator was identified as Joo Young-hyung, who turned out to be the physical education teacher.
Joo Young-hyung had a history of committing sexual crimes against dozens of female students in the past and had left the school, and it was revealed that he had involved female high school students, who were his students, in this incident, adding to the shock. Lawyer Jung Jae-min stated that Joo Young-hyung's actions were "the most demonic among the criminals I've seen so far."
Profiler Kwon Il-yong analyzed him as "a criminal that exhibits the most typical psychopathic traits." Jeon Hyo-sung also expressed her shock at the crime against a student, saying, "It seems insane."
Even during the nationwide turmoil caused by the disappearance case, Joo Young-hyung calmly went to school and pretended to worry about Yoon-sang while participating in a broadcast interview, deceiving those around him. Jeon Hyo-sung lamented the brutality of the teacher's actions against his student, saying, "It's so cruel."
His true nature was revealed through lie detector tests, and he continued to evade responsibility, inciting anger. 'HyungSuda2' sheds light on the brutal crime that shook an era through merciless kidnapping and murder, the relentless investigation that brought the perpetrator to court, and the gaslighting against the student.
Meanwhile, 'HyungSuda2' has introduced AI dubbing for global viewers as the true crime genre has gained popularity worldwide. Starting from the third episode, dubbing in four languages, including English, Spanish, Japanese, and Vietnamese, is underway, and plans for full episode dubbing are in place, making it easy for global viewers to watch 'HyungSuda2.'
