Director Kang Hyoung-chul, who sparked a retro craze with 'Speed Scandal' and 'Sunny', saw his momentum falter after the box office failure of 'Swing Kids'. He is making a comeback to the screen with his new film 'High Five' after 7 years. Can he succeed in reviving his career despite the 'Yoo Ah-in risk'?
Set to be released on June 3, 'High Five' is a comic action film about five individuals who accidentally gain different superpowers through organ transplants and their encounters with those who seek their abilities. The cast includes Yoo Ah-in, who received a prison sentence for drug charges, as well as Lee Jae-in, Ahn Jae-hong, Ra Mi-ran, Kim Hee-won, Oh Jung-se, and Park Jin-young.
Director Kang Hyoung-chul gained significant attention in Chungmuro by successfully following up his directorial debut 'Speed Scandal' with 'Sunny'. However, after the box office failure of 'Swing Kids', starring Do Kyung-soo and Park Hye-soo, his career faced a setback.
After a long hiatus, he was set to return with the film 'High Five', but the release was delayed due to the drug scandal involving lead actor Yoo Ah-in. It is finally meeting audiences this June.
The film starts with the novel premise of gaining superpowers after an organ transplant. Director Kang stated, "I wanted to create an entertaining film that anyone can enjoy. I hope the fantasy element of superpowers can be understood and enjoyed more easily," adding, "I envisioned a variety of characters that could be seen around us, and I also tried to realistically implement the audiovisual elements in the film."
Set to be released in theaters on June 3.
