KBS has responded to the appeal from fans of singer Kim Ho-joong, who was arrested on charges of drunk hit-and-run.
KBS stated through the viewer petition board, "We were able to understand the deep affection and concern of fans for Kim Ho-joong through the appeal. We also understood the worries and hopes of fans regarding the trial process and media coverage so far."
It continued, "We have a duty to report accurately and fairly based on objective facts, without bias towards specific individuals or perspectives. There have been first and second trials related to Kim Ho-joong, and we are aware that the appeal has been finalized as Kim Ho-joong's side has recently given up on appealing to the Supreme Court. KBS respects these judicial procedures and decisions."
KBS also added, "We are listening with an open attitude to viewer petitions that have been realized through the agreement of over 1,000 people, like this one. As a public broadcaster, we will refrain from sensational expressions or speculative reporting and will report with a balanced perspective."
This is a response to the appeal posted on the viewer petition board by Kim Ho-joong's fan club, "People Who Love Kim Ho-joong," on the 14th of last month.
At that time, the Kim Ho-joong fandom stated, "We sincerely apologize for the significant social controversy caused by Kim Ho-joong, albeit late. We doubted Kim Ho-joong based solely on what the media said, but we learned the truth during the appeal process, and we want to convey that fact to you," claiming that Kim Ho-joong is imprisoned due to fake articles created by the media.
They further stated, "Despite his health issues, Kim Ho-joong has engaged in many charitable activities, such as traveling to UNICEF and Africa for fundraising, while managing his busy schedule. The fans have also quietly restrained themselves and actively participated in charitable deeds in line with his intentions. While Kim Ho-joong is going through a difficult time of reflection, his fans have donated a total of 770 million won to help neighbors in need on two occasions. We hope that you can now look at Kim Ho-joong with a somewhat generous heart."
Kim Ho-joong, who was arrested on charges of drunk hit-and-run, submitted a petition to withdraw his appeal to the Supreme Court on the 19th of last month, and the sentence of 2 years and 6 months imposed in the second trial has been finalized.
As a result, Kim Ho-joong has received a broadcasting appearance suspension from KBS. KBS considers acts that cause social controversy due to illegal or immoral behavior as subjects for broadcasting appearance regulation review.
