The "God of Action," Tom Cruise (64), shared behind-the-scenes stories about the high-difficulty airplane action in his new film 'Mission: Impossible - Final Reckoning' (hereafter 'Mission: Impossible 8').
At the press conference for 'Mission: Impossible 8' held at Lotte Tower in Jamsil, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 8th, Tom Cruise introduced the film as "the finale of the 'Mission: Impossible' series," stating, "We put all our effort into upgrading every aspect, not just the scale but also the storytelling."
He said, "Making a movie is a collaborative effort. The power of collaboration is important. I have felt that power while spending my life on set, and we have grown together. Everyone works together to keep growing in various aspects, both technically and narratively," adding, "Of course, there are times when I feel scared and pressured. We enjoy that. We have to enjoy it."
He continued, "This time, the best team came together again. We did everything together, and the result is very satisfying. I hope the energy comes through the screen to the audience," expressing confidence that "they will be sufficiently satisfied."
In particular, he confessed that performing the 'wing walking' action, which involves walking on a flying airplane, was "scary. It was really not easy."
He shared, "I told the director that I couldn't move at that speed on the airplane. I said I couldn't breathe. The wind was so strong that I couldn't catch my breath. I trained accordingly and did breathing exercises. It was a task that demanded a lot. I also did difficult training," adding, "I even told the director to try standing on the wing himself, to experiment directly. I actually got up there and coached him for 20 minutes."
He also mentioned, "It's hard to stick your face out of a car, so I wondered if I could endure standing outside. I do a lot of extreme actions, and honestly, it's scary. However, that feeling is not fear. Looking back at what I've done before, I haven't just sought safety," joking, "Since I've done so much of that, everything feels safe."
Meanwhile, at the press conference, in addition to Tom Cruise, director Christopher McQuarrie and actors Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Pom Klementieff, and Greg Tarzan Davis were also present. They will participate in a red carpet event at the Lotte World Ice Rink starting at 5 PM after the press conference.
'Mission: Impossible - Final Reckoning' is an action blockbuster where Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the IMF team members, faced with a life-threatening crisis that threatens all of humanity, dive into a single mission that all choices lead to.
It will be released on May 17.
