Sunwoo of the group THE BOYZ has directly apologized for the recent 'character controversy'.
On the night of the 14th, Sunwoo posted a lengthy apology on THE BOYZ's official Twitter, saying, "I apologize for the delay in my message as I was worried and thinking about whether I was writing something insincere."
“First of all, I think you must be very tired,” Sunwoo began, stating, “I have been constantly reflecting on my words and actions. The intention of what I wanted to convey was distorted due to my personal thoughts and irrational behavior, and I want to apologize for not being careful with my words and actions, which may have led some to feel that way despite my lack of such intentions.”

Sunwoo clearly stated that this message is not meant to brush off the situation, saying, “I do not want to simply ask for forgiveness or express that I feel wronged. If someone saw me that way, I must first recognize that I could have been that kind of person.” He added, “I will prove to you and to myself, even if it takes time, that I am not that kind of person and that I value and consider the relationships and feelings between people to be truly precious and important.”
He continued, “This message is my sincere apology to those who have criticized my shortcomings and immaturity, to those who may have felt uncomfortable and hurt by my actions, and to everyone around me who loves me. I hope my feelings are conveyed without any misunderstanding through this message.”
Finally, Sunwoo bowed his head, saying, “Once again, I sincerely apologize to everyone who has felt discomfort and hurt due to my immature responses.”
Sunwoo recently became embroiled in a 'character controversy' after a video of him leaving a radio broadcast surfaced online. In the video, Sunwoo dropped his AirPods while running and shouted, "My AirPods!" without picking them up himself, and there were criticisms for not properly thanking the security guard who picked them up and for receiving them with one hand without saying much.
In response, Sunwoo explained on a fan platform, “I saw the video and thought, ‘What’s the big deal about the AirPods?’ but it really looked like I was just receiving them rudely without saying hello. I realized it could definitely look that way. However, I always greet the cleaning staff at music shows and elsewhere. I will act well so that such unfair stories do not arise.”
However, after actress Nana commented on Sunwoo's video saying, "He needs to be scolded," the controversy reignited. Some netizens went to Nana's SNS to leave rebuttal comments, yet Nana added another comment saying, "You can tell a lot from one thing," further criticizing him.
In response to Nana's comment, Sunwoo expressed through a fan platform, “I would never shout at the security guard to pick up my AirPods with fans in front of me. I am trying to reflect on how it appeared that way, but it’s scary to be criticized like this for a few seconds of video and for people who cross the line with malicious comments.”
As the controversy grew, the agency released an official statement on the 14th, stating, “We are deeply aware that Sunwoo's appearance in the video could lead to character controversy. Sunwoo is also reflecting calmly after communicating with us, but we regret that the situation is developing differently from the direction we and the artist intended to reflect. We regret that we could not manage this more actively before such incidents occurred and that the artist acted recklessly.”
The agency stated, “This character controversy regarding Sunwoo is entirely our fault, and the artist is also reflecting on aspects that he had not recognized before.” They added, “We cannot leave the situation where baseless malicious comments are occurring regarding this incident unaddressed for the protection of the artist. We are preparing for strong legal action regarding this matter.”
Hello, this is Sunwoo from THE BOYZ.
I apologize for the delay in my message as I was thinking about how to express my honest thoughts and feelings, and whether I was writing something insincere.
First of all, I think you must be very tired. I have been constantly reflecting on my words and actions.
The intention of what I wanted to convey was distorted due to my personal thoughts and irrational behavior, and I want to apologize for not being careful with my words and actions, which may have led some to feel that way despite my lack of such intentions.
I want to clarify that this is not a message to simply brush off the situation. I was unable to respond maturely from the beginning due to my shortcomings, and my attempts to defend myself from the hurt caused by excessive criticism have hurt many people.
I do not want to simply ask for forgiveness or express that I feel wronged. If someone saw me that way, I must first recognize that I could have been that kind of person. I will prove to you and to myself, even if it takes time, that I am not that kind of person and that I value and consider the relationships and feelings between people to be truly precious and important.
Finally, this message is my sincere apology to those who have criticized my shortcomings and immaturity, to those who may have felt uncomfortable and hurt by my actions, and to everyone around me who loves me. I hope my feelings are conveyed without any misunderstanding through this message.
Once again, I sincerely apologize to everyone who has felt discomfort and hurt due to my immature responses.
And I am very sorry to the fans who love me.
Sincerely, Sunwoo.
