In ‘Potato Research Institute’, Lee Hak-joo transforms into a master of social skills that cannot be hated.

On the 11th, the production team of tvN's new Saturday-Sunday drama ‘Potato Research Institute’ (directed by Kang Il-soo and Shim Jae-hyun, written by Kim Ho-soo, planned by CJ ENM Studios, produced by Green Snake Media) released the first character still of Park Gi-se, the ex-boyfriend of Kim Mi-kyung (played by Lee Sun-bin), who is the executive director of Wonhan Retail's strategic planning department.

‘Potato Research Institute’ depicts a healing romantic comedy where a cold principled man, Baek Ho (played by Kang Tae-oh), appears before Mi-kyung, for whom potatoes are everything, swirling like a tornado of potatoes. The warm romance that unfolds between two completely opposite characters in the potato research institute in the mountains brings delightful laughter and a unique thrill. Above all, director Kang Il-soo and writer Kim Ho-soo, who have shown irreplaceable emotions across genres in works like ‘The Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung’ and ‘Solomon's Perjury’, join forces to continue the lineage of tvN's healing romantic comedies.

The stills released that day capture Park Gi-se's appearance, which draws attention repeatedly. The reason why Park Gi-se, the executive director of Wonhan Retail's strategic planning department, has risen to his current position is due to his neat appearance and sociable personality, characteristic of a master of social skills. Despite his always confident demeanor, his face, unable to hide confusion, hints at the changes coming to the influential Park Gi-se of Wonhan Retail.

Another photo shows Park Gi-se's affectionate gaze towards someone, which is intriguing. The object of his gaze is none other than his ex-girlfriend, Kim Mi-kyung. The lingering affection in Park Gi-se's eyes raises curiosity about the story of the two former lovers. While he is everyone's ideal, he is a bad connection for Kim Mi-kyung. The reunion at the Potato Research Institute raises questions about what variables it will create for Kim Mi-kyung and So Baek-ho.

Lee Hak-joo stated, “When I first saw the script, I found it very interesting, and the characters were charming. In particular, the character of ‘Park Gi-se’ has a captivating charm that is both annoying and makes you want to see him, which is why I wanted to do ‘Potato Research Institute’.” He continued, “I worked hard to bring joy and satisfaction to the viewers through the scenes featuring Park Gi-se. I thought a lot about ‘what parts can I make interesting’,” which heightened expectations.

tvN's new Saturday-Sunday drama ‘Potato Research Institute’ will premiere on March 1st, Saturday at 9:20 PM.
