NetEase Music and SM Entertainment have reached a preliminary agreement to ensure the continuation of music streaming.
NetEase Cloud Music, a leading player in the Chinese music streaming market, announced on the 25th that it has made significant progress in copyright renewal discussions with SM Entertainment.
Thanks to this extension agreement, fans will be able to continue accessing the SM music catalog even after the contract expiration date set for January 31.
The news, announced under the title 'Latest Version of SM Copyright Renewal,' has provided relief to countless fans who were facing concerns about potentially losing access to their favorite K-pop songs. According to NetEase Music, the 'overwhelming support and earnest appeals from fans' played a crucial role in bringing the two companies to the negotiation table.
Just a day earlier, NetEase Music had delivered a grim notice to fans, stating that SM Entertainment's unilateral decision not to renew copyrights could lead to the removal of all songs from its streaming service. The potential loss sparked heated debates online, with related hashtags trending on Weibo and other social media platforms, garnering significant public attention.
In a recent announcement, NetEase Music reaffirmed its commitment to establishing a 'long-term and stable copyright partnership' with SM Entertainment, emphasizing the sincerity of the negotiations.
