Singer IU revealed her frugal side by using equipment that is 10 years old.
On the 13th, a video titled “IU's In-Ear Monitor Introduction | 2025 IU FAN MEET UP ‘Bye, Summer’ Rehearsal Behind Part 2” was released on IU's YouTube channel ‘Lee Ji-geum’.
During a rehearsal, IU mentioned, “I’m thinking about changing my in-ears. There’s a bit of a silly in-ear. The in-ear is very revealing, and the microphone is very revealing, so the sound feels ‘sharp’ to me.”
In response, a staff member suggested, “Then let’s change it right now,” and replaced her in-ears. IU then said, “Isn’t this too old?” and asked, “What is the usual lifespan of in-ears?” The staff replied, “About 1-2 years,” to which IU expressed surprise, saying, “I’ve used this for about 10 years.”
The staff remarked, “Then this one won’t fit either. The sound might leak, or it might not match,” and IU agreed, saying, “That’s right. So I remember getting new in-ears.”
Another staff member humorously advised, “Don’t keep trying to change the equipment; try to solve the problems through communication.”
Meanwhile, IU made headlines in February 2021 when she purchased a luxury apartment in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, Seoul, with a dedicated area of 244㎡ for 13 billion won. The current asking price is 27 billion won.
