Yeo Esther, a representative of a supplement brand and a family medicine specialist, revealed that she lost weight down to 52kg due to severe depression.
On the 16th, a short titled "Yeo Esther's recent update 'I go around like a ghost..(?)'" was released on her YouTube channel.
On that day, when asked by the production team, "It seems like you've lost a lot of weight since we last saw you, Doctor," Yeo Esther replied, "I've lost weight down to 52kg. I've lost about 2kg."
She added, "Recently, I added one more antidepressant, and the side effect is that I have no appetite. That's why I've lost 2kg. The downside is that I feel weak, but the upside is that my clothes fit better," she joked.
In response, her husband Hong Hye-gul explained, "My wife has had thyroid cancer surgery, has a brain aneurysm, and suffers from severe asthma. She can't breathe all the time, and it causes her to have fits. And she also has depression."
He continued, "She doesn't go out anywhere. She only dressed up today because of the shoot. Usually, she just wears pajamas and lies around like a ghost."
Yeo Esther was surprised by Hong Hye-gul's words and asked, "You said I was pretty, but do I look like a ghost?" She then wondered, "When I lie down, didn't you come and say, 'Our chubby one is pretty'?" Hong Hye-gul replied, "That's just lip service," and added, "She lies in bed all the time, and when she wakes up, she only watches YouTube. She orders all her meals for delivery."
He lamented, "Do I not have money or time? I also want to go to good restaurants."
Earlier, on the 7th, Hong Hye-gul revealed on social media that Yeo Esther is experiencing symptoms of anhedonia, stating, "She complains that she finds no joy in anything that ordinary people feel, such as traveling, shopping, exercising, watching, or dining out."
He also expressed his disappointment about people not being able to reach Yeo Esther, asking them to understand that it is due to her depression, saying, "Even a simple one-line reply has become a very difficult obligation for her, causing her distress."
