Actress Jeon Hye-jin (48) is returning to the theater stage after 10 years.
On the 20th, her agency Hodoo & You Entertainment announced, “Jeon Hye-jin will star in the one-person play ‘Anthropolis II – Laios’ (written by Roland Schimmelpfennig, directed by Kim Soo-jung), which will be performed at the National Theater of Korea Myeongdong Arts Theater from November 6 to 22.” This work is a domestic premiere.
‘Laios’ is the second work in the five-part series ‘Anthropolis’ by German playwright Roland Schimmelpfennig, exploring the origins of civilization based on the myth of the Theban royal family from ancient Greece.
In particular, it is structured as a one-person play, requiring a single actor on stage to embody multiple characters and voices. Jeon Hye-jin is expected to showcase a wide acting spectrum by switching between various characters in the play.
Jeon Hye-jin's return to the theater stage comes 10 years after her last performance in ‘Twenty-Twenty Chaimu – The Tale of the Tail’ in 2015. Her agency explained that her choice to return to theater, after establishing herself as an irreplaceable actress through consistent work in films and dramas, is due to an “essential longing for acting.”
Recently, Jeon Hye-jin made a strong impression as a captivating villain in the Netflix film ‘Cross,’ and in the drama ‘Riding Life,’ she realistically portrayed the challenges of a working mom, receiving positive reviews. This upcoming stage performance is expected to present a new challenge that condenses her diverse acting experiences.
‘Laios’ will be performed at the National Theater of Korea Myeongdong Arts Theater from November 6 to 22.
