Singer Lee Hyori (47) revealed that she feels a heavy sense of responsibility that comes with her years of experience.
On the 8th, during the MBC FM4U program ‘A Perfect Day with Lee Sang-soon’, the ‘Monthly Lee Hyori’ segment was held, where Lee Hyori appeared as a guest.
Lee Hyori started by saying, “Last month, I had quite a bit of exposure on TV,” and added, “I think I talked a lot about myself while doing two programs with Yoo Jae-suk. So, I was in a tense state.”
She also mentioned, “I met Yoo Jae-suk after a long time at Kim Jong-min's wedding, and I said, ‘Since I’m in Seoul, I’ll appear on ‘Pinky’ as an excuse.’ We set a recording date, but then I got a call from ‘Yoo Quiz’ as well,” explaining, “Initially, I declined because it overlapped with the ‘Pinky’ schedule, but they asked me to come for the 300th episode special, so I ended up going.”
When DJ Lee Sang-soon commented, “There were a lot of articles about those programs,” Lee Hyori candidly replied, “I’m grateful, but I feel like the more I talk, the greater the consequences. So, I always try to stay tense.”
She continued, “When I was younger, I could say things freely because people would think, ‘She’s young.’ But as I get older, my sense of responsibility seems to grow. I think, ‘I should talk less,’ but then I wonder if I should just not go on talk shows at all. In the end, I think I can just speak and handle the aftermath well,” she laughed.
Recently, Lee Hyori's comments about not wanting to undergo IVF and being grateful if a child comes naturally, made during the MBC Every1 show ‘The Oppa at the Tteokbokki House’ aired in May 2022, have resurfaced and sparked controversy.
Some expressed their displeasure, saying, “Don’t say such things carelessly. Do you know how many children have been born with the help of science?” and “How hard do mothers undergoing IVF struggle? This is disheartening,” and “This article hurts those who are struggling with IVF,” among other criticisms.
On the other hand, there were also voices acknowledging her stance. “She never spoke negatively about IVF, so it’s unfair,” and “She just expressed her own choice and thoughts,” and “She didn’t tell others not to do IVF, so why criticize her for saying she won’t,” and “If you’re envious, just admit you’re envious,” showing concern over the excessive criticism.
Lee Hyori and Lee Sang-soon got married in 2013.
