Seo Joo-kyung (55), who dominated an era with “Bold Woman,” disclosed her story of receiving a divine calling in her 20s.
In the MBN program “Exclusive World” aired on the 29th, Seo Joo-kyung shared her recent updates, revealing that she debuted as a singer at 19 and eventually rose to stardom as “Bold Woman” after over a decade of being unknown.
She mentioned that she received immense love to the extent of being listed in the Korean Guinness Book, stating, “People say my assets are worth 7 billion won, but it’s likely more than that.”
She revealed that she has been suffering from polycystic kidney syndrome, which causes numerous cysts in her kidneys for nearly 30 years, and that she received a divine calling after battling an unexplained illness since childhood.

Seo Joo-kyung said, “I dream about things that will happen 365 days a year. I had unexplained bleeding, and even when I went to the hospital, there were no answers. People said I wouldn’t live past 40. I received a divine calling at 29.”
Unable to give up on her dream of being a singer, she shared, “I prayed to be allowed to sing, saying I would return all the money I earned from singing by doing good deeds. A great elder rode the sword, and I prayed while sacrificing cows and pigs. I prayed and wrapped it nicely to present it to the temple’s Buddha.”
As a single mother raising a 15-year-old son alone, she stated, “They said I couldn’t have a child because it reached my endometrium. They said both the mother and child would be at risk. The hospital said it was impossible, but my mother insisted it was her wish,” revealing that she gave birth to a late child at 42.
She mentioned, “I registered my child’s birth by filing for marriage. I didn’t have a wedding, and I don’t have a wedding ring. I separated from my husband due to personality differences. It’s called a ‘semi-marriage’ where we don’t live together but reside 5 minutes apart,” expressing her concern, “I have a chronic illness, so I always need to be prepared. If I were alone in this world, I could manage on my own, but since I have a child, it’s different.”
