The quality of the Netflix original series ‘Squid Game 2’ has once again been recognized globally. Chae Kyung-sun, the art director of ‘Squid Game’, has won the American Art Directors Guild (ADG) Award for Season 2, following her win for Season 1.
The American Art Directors Guild announced through its official social media account that ‘Squid Game 2’ was selected as the winner in the One-Hour Contemporary Single-Camera Series category at the 29th ADG Awards held on the 15th (local time) at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown Hotel.
Director Chae previously won the same award for ‘Squid Game’ Season 1 in 2022, making this her second win for the same series in three years.
The Art Directors Guild Award is given to art directors and set designers who create beautiful and artistic backgrounds and mise-en-scène designs in films, TV dramas, commercials, and music videos.
‘Squid Game 2’ was nominated for its design direction in the five-on-six game and the pros and cons voting, and it triumphed over Amazon Prime's ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’, Apple TV's ‘Slow Horses’, Netflix's ‘The Gentleman’, and Paramount's ‘Yellowstone’ to win the honor.
The artistic quality of ‘Squid Game 2’ is standing out in various fields. At the 30th Critics' Choice Awards held in Santa Monica, USA, on the 7th (local time), it was nominated for Best Foreign Language Series in the TV category and won, beating out ‘Acapulco’ (Apple TV+), ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ (Prime Video), ‘La Maquina’ (Hulu), ‘Lydia Poet's Law Season 2’ (Netflix), ‘My Brilliant Friend Season 4’ (HBO), ‘Pachinko’ (Apple TV+), and ‘Senna’ (Netflix).
The previous installment, ‘Squid Game 1’, won three awards at the same ceremony in 2022, including Best Action Series, Best Actor, and Best Actress in the TV category, marking a historic achievement for Korean dramas.
Released in December last year, ‘Squid Game 2’ depicts the fierce confrontation between Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who returns to participate in the game seeking revenge, and the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), as the real game begins again. ‘Squid Game 3’ is also set to be released on June 27.
