Ballet dancer Jeon Min-cheol recalled the time he quit ballet.
On the 5th, Jeon Min-cheol, a dancer from the world-renowned ‘Mariinsky Ballet’, appeared as a guest on tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block’.
On that day, Jeon Min-cheol said, “After failing the ‘Billy Elliot’ audition, I thought, ‘Maybe this isn’t the path for me.’” He continued, “I went to the practice room to support my friends who were performing together for a long time. The choreographer asked me, ‘What have you been up to lately?’ and I replied, ‘I’m just attending a regular middle school. I’m not doing ballet.’ Then he said, ‘You need to do ballet to shine. You must do ballet.’ That’s how I started ballet again.”
After that, Jeon Min-cheol transferred to Sunhwa Arts Middle School. He revealed, “I got accepted, but since I had only recently started ballet professionally, my skills were completely lacking compared to my friends. The teachers compared me to my friends, and at that time, ballet became something I disliked.”
Jeon Min-cheol said, “I could see the difference in skills, and I was belittling myself by comparing myself to my friends. I thought, ‘I need to practice and beat my friends.’ I was trying to straighten my instep because it wasn’t straight. I even slept in my ballet shoes, thinking, ‘Maybe that will help me do better in ballet.’”
Meanwhile, ‘You Quiz on the Block’ airs every Wednesday at 8:45 PM.
