The group NewJeans has announced that they will temporarily suspend all activities in accordance with a court ruling.
According to the music industry on the 24th, NewJeans stated at the end of their performance at 'ComplexCon' in Hong Kong the previous night, "In fact, today’s stage may be our last performance for the time being," and added, "We have decided to stop all activities in compliance with the court's decision. It is not an easy decision, but it is a necessary choice for us right now."
On the 21st, the Seoul Central District Court's Civil Agreement Division 50 (Chief Judge Kim Sang-hoon) accepted Ador's request for a provisional injunction against NewJeans members regarding 'preservation of agency status and prohibition of contract signing'. According to the court's ruling, NewJeans can no longer engage in independent activities without prior approval or consent from Ador, and the members seem to have expressed their intention not to return to Ador even if it means suspending their activities.
Member Minji stated on stage in Hong Kong, "We know better than anyone that this won't be easy," and added, "While accepting the court's decision and the process, we will raise our voices to protect each other. We do not regret that choice."
Hyein also mentioned, "Some may think it would have been better to just endure and stay with Ador," but emphasized, "For us, this situation was about protecting ourselves. We believe that by doing so, we can become stronger and return. Therefore, we absolutely do not regret our choice."
Minji added, "We want to take some time to gather our thoughts and then move forward with renewed strength. I hope you all understand that this is not the end, and we will definitely return, wanting to meet you again with truly bright smiles."
NewJeans announced last November that they would terminate their contract with Ador due to non-fulfillment of obligations and declared their intention to engage in independent activities under the new name NJZ. In response, Ador argued that the contract is valid until July 2029 and entered into legal disputes. The first hearing date for the main lawsuit to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract between Ador and NewJeans is set for April 3rd.
