Dancer Wow Kita Dera expressed his stance on the controversy over racist expressions through social media on the 9th. During a recent episode of Mnet's 'World of Street Woman Fighter (Swoopa)', he was criticized for mimicking the lyrics of a song containing derogatory terms for Black people.
The controversial scene came from the performance of global artist Saweetie's 'Best Friend'.
Wow appeared on the broadcast screen seemingly mimicking part of the lyrics, and although that part was muted, viewers' criticism continued to escalate. Wow stated, "I did not make a sound, but that scene alone caused discomfort to many people," and added, "I deeply reflect on my ignorance of the historical context and pain of that word."
He also mentioned, "I am studying how it can hurt the Black community," and added, "I will not repeat the same mistake again."
At the end of his apology, he bowed his head and said, "I sincerely apologize. I will act more cautiously and responsibly." His posture spoke louder than words, and although it was late, his reflection was clear.
It was just a lip movement, but the emotions were much greater. The scene that flowed without words now carries a lot of meaning.
Meanwhile, Wow Kita Dera is currently a member of the Japanese dance crew Osaka Ojo Gang, which is participating in 'Swoopa', and is preparing for the semi-final stage.

I sincerely apologize for my appearance mimicking the lyrics containing racist slurs during Saweetie's 'Best Friend' performance.
Although the sound was off and I did not actually sing it, I deeply reflect on the fact that the scene itself caused hurt and discomfort to many people.
I take full responsibility for this incident. At the time, I did not fully recognize the historical significance and weight of that word, and now I realize how insensitive and hurtful it was to express that word with my lips. I had no intention of belittling or hurting anyone.
Since then, I have taken time to study and learn more about the pain and significance of this word, especially to the Black community. I will continue to learn and listen, ensuring that I do not repeat the same mistake.
I sincerely apologize to those who were hurt and disappointed by that scene.
I hope my regret is sincerely conveyed, and that you will believe in my efforts to improve in the future.
