The casting lineup for the drama 'How to Become a Landlord in Korea' has been revealed.
The new tvN drama 'How to Become a Landlord in Korea' (written by Oh Han-ki / directed by Lim Pil-sung / planned by Studio Dragon / produced by Mind Mark, Studio 329 / abbreviated as 'Landlord'), scheduled to air in the first half of 2026, has confirmed the casting of actors Ha Jung-woo, Lim Soo-jung, Kim Jun-han, Jung Soo-jung, and Shim Eun-kyung.
The combination of 'trustworthy actors' returning to the small screen after a long time, along with actors boasting exceptional acting skills and unique presence, is already generating high expectations.
'Landlord' is a drama that depicts the story of a struggling landlord who gets involved in crime to protect his family and property, which are more precious than life itself. The 'fake kidnapping' that begins to protect the property escalates into an unpredictable situation, promising extreme suspense that will captivate viewers.
First, Ha Jung-woo plays the role of Ki Soo-jong, a family man who becomes a landlord through 'young-geul' (borrowing to the last penny) but is burdened with enormous debt. Known for his versatile acting across genres in films and OTT series, Ha Jung-woo is making his comeback to the small screen after 19 years since the drama 'Hit' in 2007, drawing attention. He is expected to portray the increasingly desperate situation of Ki Soo-jong with his renowned compelling performance.
Lim Soo-jung, who plays Ki Soo-jong's wife Kim Sun, will enhance the story's immersion by embodying a character with complex emotions entangled in the events. Having received public love for her irreplaceable charm and acting, Lim Soo-jung returns to the small screen after 'Melancholia' in 2021, showcasing a new transformation. She is expected to radiate her presence by depicting Kim Sun's strong and resilient character amidst unpredictable circumstances.
Kim Jun-han plays the role of Min Hwal-seong, Ki Soo-jong's close friend. Min Hwal-seong repeatedly fails in every business and investment he touches but manages to marry and settle down as a son-in-law. Driven by ambition to succeed and a desire for recognition, he ends up in unexpected situations. Given Kim Jun-han's solid acting skills that have received acclaim in various works, his performance is highly anticipated.
Jung Soo-jung, who is steadily building her filmography as an actress, has been cast as Jeon Yi-kyung, Min Hwal-seong's wife and a real estate mogul's daughter. Jeon Yi-kyung, who envies and relies on Ki Soo-jong and Kim Sun, experiences unexpected events. Jung Soo-jung is expected to leave a deep impression through the tumultuous changes faced by Jeon Yi-kyung, who has grown up like a sheltered flower.
Shim Eun-kyung plays the role of Yona, a staff member of Real Capital who pressures Ki Soo-jong. Yona, adopted overseas as a child, adds tension to the drama with her mysterious charm. Having starred in hit films like 'Sunny', 'Masquerade', and 'My Annoying Brother', Shim Eun-kyung made headlines by winning the Best Actress award at the 2020 Japanese Academy Awards after advancing into Japan. Expectations are high for her intense transformation as she returns to Korean dramas after six years with 'Landlord.'
With a powerful casting lineup including Ha Jung-woo, Lim Soo-jung, Kim Jun-han, Jung Soo-jung, and Shim Eun-kyung, 'Landlord' will begin filming in July. The direction will be handled by Lim Pil-sung, who showcased his unique directorial style in the film 'Persona'. Writer Oh Han-ki, who debuted as a novelist with unique works like 'Baguette Boy Soldier' and 'Human Manse', is taking on his first drama script.
'Landlord' is set to air on tvN in the first half of 2026.
