Lim Hyung-joo, the ‘world-renowned popera master’ who became a millionaire at the age of 20, will reveal his income for the first time on broadcast through ‘Neighbor Millionaire’.
On the 25th at 9:55 PM, the EBS and E Channel co-produced show ‘Seo Jang-hoon’s Neighbor Millionaire’ (hereafter ‘Neighbor Millionaire’) will feature Lim Hyung-joo, the ‘pioneer of popera in Korea and a legend in the global popera scene’.
Lim Hyung-joo's appearance on public broadcasting is particularly significant as it marks his first appearance in 15 years, excluding news reports or performance clips since 2011. It is known that he has received many offers from various broadcasts wanting to document his life, but he has turned them all down.
His appearance on ‘Neighbor Millionaire’ after 15 years will not only showcase his public broadcasting return but also reveal the touching stories of Lim Hyung-joo's life and his 400-pyeong mansion, which have been hidden behind the glamorous stage, generating high expectations.
Lim Hyung-joo, after much consideration, decided to appear on ‘Neighbor Millionaire’, stating, “I became a millionaire at 20, so I have the qualifications,” which drew attention. He was the first Korean musician to sign a contract with one of the world’s four major record labels and, following Jo Sumi in 2003, became the second in Korea to surpass 100 million won per performance. When Lim Hyung-joo's earnings from his record contract, performance fees, and the number of performances are revealed, Seo Jang-hoon expresses his astonishment, saying, “Even if calculated conservatively, you must have earned over 50 billion won.”
Meanwhile, Lim Hyung-joo sang the national anthem at the inauguration of the late President Roh Moo-hyun in 2003 at the age of 17, making him the ‘youngest ever’ to do so in history. This moment left a strong impression on many citizens, and Lim Hyung-joo rose to stardom as the ‘national anthem boy’.
Lim Hyung-joo reveals, “When I first received the invitation, I thought it was a voice phishing scam.” The behind-the-scenes story of how the then-unknown 17-year-old Lim Hyung-joo managed to sing at the presidential inauguration, overcoming numerous objections, can be found in ‘Seo Jang-hoon’s Neighbor Millionaire’.
