Broadcaster Seo Jang-hoon provided realistic advice to a person struggling with marriage concerns.

On the 23rd, the KBS Joy entertainment program 'Ask Anything' featured a story about someone who wants to get married but is troubled by practical issues.

The 34-year-old male storyteller expressed confusion as his views on marriage clash with the Korean perspective. He introduced himself as having worked as a navigator in Korea, graduated from law school in Australia, and currently living as a foreign lawyer.

He continued, “When I was in Australia, it was all about love. It was more about how much I liked the person rather than their conditions, but it seems a bit different in Korea.” In response, Seo Jang-hoon countered that regardless of the country, the original feelings are important, but practical issues inevitably come into play.

When Lee Soo-geun asked about the reason for his transition from navigator to lawyer, the storyteller explained, “As a navigator, you become isolated from the world. Once you board a ship, it’s for six months,” and he felt it would be difficult to get married if he continued as a navigator, so he quit and went to Australia to study English, eventually entering law school.

When Seo Jang-hoon asked, “When did you go to Australia?” the storyteller replied, “I went in 2018 and returned in 2023.” Seo Jang-hoon then joked, “But why do you talk like an Australian?” and “Didn’t you meet someone with a similar view on marriage while you were in Australia for five years?” The storyteller responded, “I couldn’t speak English well when I went to Australia, and I was financially struggling. I focused only on my studies and work.”

When Seo Jang-hoon asked, “Are you financially stable now?” the storyteller mentioned that he went to Australia with 110 million won and spent 300 million won there, but he worked hard to pay it back after graduation and recently repaid all the money he borrowed from his parents.

Seo Jang-hoon then said, “You want to get married, but you have no savings, and women keep asking for conditions, which is frustrating, right? But it can't be helped. For example, if you generally want to get married, you inevitably have to consider various conditions and economic power. Love doesn’t put food on the table, right?”

Later, when Seo Jang-hoon asked about his salary and whether he has family to support, the storyteller replied that he earns about 80 million won and has no family to support. Seo Jang-hoon advised, “When you meet someone in the future, tell them this: ‘Look at the future rather than the present,’ and ‘I may not have saved much until now, but I can save well in the future.’ You should actually live like that too.”
