Allegations of 'bullying' by the drama production team have surfaced once again.
On the 24th, a post titled 'The filming team asking for silence in the columbarium' was shared on an online community.
The author, Mr. A, stated, “Today, I went to the columbarium for my grandmother's funeral, and there was filming going on, I don’t know if it was for a drama or what. I was just watching out of curiosity when one of the staff came up to me and said, ‘I’m really sorry, but we are filming, could you please be a little quieter?’”
He continued, “The strange thing is, I wasn’t talking at all, and my family and relatives weren’t speaking loudly either. So I said, ‘I’m usually quiet, so don’t worry,’ but they asked me to convey that to the other family members. I was like, ‘Me?’ and ended the conversation there.”
Mr. A expressed disbelief, saying, “If there are people crying in the columbarium, would they tell them not to cry?”
In a comment, Mr. A clarified, “It’s not a columbarium in a crematorium. I thought they would take action if I filed a complaint with the columbarium, but since I’m the youngest, it was hard for me to step up,” adding, “When my cousin asked what was going on, I said it was nothing serious because I thought it would escalate.”
He also mentioned, “There’s a bad image of the drama filming staff. I didn’t ask because I felt that even if I asked politely, I wouldn’t get a good response,” and added, “I don’t know when the filming will air, and since it’s where my grandmother is laid to rest, I don’t want to disclose the columbarium and cause trouble. It’s just a problem with the filming team.”
He emphasized, “Some people say, ‘Why are you complaining when they asked politely?’ but the fact that it’s an unreasonable request doesn’t change just because they were polite.”
As Mr. A’s post went public, netizens reacted with comments like, “Why not create a filming location?”, “Is filming a privilege?”, “Why not rent the entire columbarium?”, “Do they think other people are just out for a walk in the columbarium?”, “This is excessive,” and “If they want to film quietly, they should build a set.”
The reason for the backlash from netizens is that such cases of 'bullying by filming teams' have been recurring.
In March, the Netflix original 'Bokssak Soksuda', which received great love, faced controversy for blocking access to citizens visiting the canola flower fields while filming at the Gochang Cheongbori Field Festival. Additionally, there were revelations about damage to props by on-site staff, unpaid wages and overtime, poor meal and accommodation conditions, and unfair treatment of cast and crew.
During the filming of 'Mask Girl', claims were made about illegal dumping of trash and smoking on set, and regarding the filming of 'Squid Game 2', there was a controversy over filming staff preventing citizens from using the escalators at Incheon Airport and issuing commands.
