Professor Jo Se-rin confessed the pressure of the Gayageum proficiency exam.
On the 7th, Professor Jo Se-rin, the first foreigner to pass the Gayageum proficiency exam in Korea, appeared as a guest on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block'.
On that day, Yoo Jae-suk congratulated Professor Jo Se-rin for becoming the first foreigner to pass the Gayageum proficiency exam. Professor Jo said, "I didn't know I would become a proficiency holder. Until now, foreigners couldn't take the exam. Recently, the regulations changed to allow foreigners to become proficiency holders, so I felt I had to do it."
When Yoo Jae-suk mentioned, "I heard that many Koreans who have learned the Gayageum for over 10 years also fail," Professor Jo replied, "I wanted to be recognized for having learned it properly, not just as a foreigner. The proficiency exam felt similar to the Harvard doctoral exam. It was scary."
She continued, "I prepared for the proficiency exam for 33 years. If calculated in sheet music, I had to memorize 120 pages. I went to Jeonju every weekend to study," referring to her arduous training process.
Meanwhile, 'You Quiz on the Block' airs every Wednesday at 8:45 PM.
