As viewers flooded in with complaints about the rude attitude of the MBC 'Today N' PD, the VOD service was suspended.
On the 2nd, the OTT (Over-The-Top) platform Wavve suspended the service for the 2407th episode of MBC's current affairs program 'Today N', which aired on the 1st. At around 10 AM that day, a message stating "No content details available" appeared, and the video could not be played, followed by the complete removal of the episode information. The broadcast from the 1st is also not available for VOD service on the MBC website.
The reason for the suspension of the VOD service appears to be the controversy surrounding the PD's attitude during the broadcast on the 1st. In the 'Isn't it good (家)' segment, the story of an elderly man living in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, was revealed. The grandfather, who returned to his hometown after running a real estate business in Gyeongju, showcased three houses he built himself.
The controversial part was the attitude of the PD who filmed this segment. When the grandfather mentioned that he built three houses, the PD rudely asked, "You must have some money. Do you have a lot of money?"
When the grandfather proudly talked about his clay room, saying, "It's warm and good for health. Don't you often go for clay treatments?" the PD replied, "I'm not at the age where I like clay rooms yet."
When the grandfather offered to share the oyster mushrooms he grew himself, the PD seemed to respond dismissively, saying, "They're all available at the Seoul mart. What's the difference?" Furthermore, when the grandfather explained that he plays drums as a hobby because "as you get older, you need to keep your hands and feet moving," the PD remarked, "Can't you just do farm work?"
Along with the PD's comments, subtitles such as 'joke' and 'full of fun' were displayed, but the netizens' reactions were cold.
After the broadcast, the viewer opinion board for 'Today N' saw posts like "I was offended by the rudeness of the male PD," "What kind of PD is this?" "The male PD is neither funny nor polite," "Rude and arrogant," "Did he not learn to respect the elderly?" and "If you don't want to work, just quit." There were also calls for "disciplinary action and disclosure of the disciplinary record."
