Actor Gong Myung showcases the diverse charm of the character Seo Ui-jun, who embodies restrained warmth and trust, through “Please Stop Drinking.”
The new tvN Monday-Tuesday drama “Please Stop Drinking” (written by Myung Soo-hyun, Jeon Ji-hyun / directed by Jang Yu-jung / planned by Studio Dragon / produced by How Pictures) is a sober romance drama about a woman who considered herself a very ordinary drinker, who challenges her first-ever sobriety after reuniting with her first love, who hates alcohol.
In the drama, Gong Myung plays Seo Ui-jun, the head of the health center in his hometown, Bocheon Village, who suddenly returns after working as a psychiatrist at a prestigious university hospital in Seoul. He is a ‘well-rounded character’ with good looks, personality, and qualifications, who approaches everyone kindly and cheerfully, but firmly draws the line when it comes to alcohol, being a staunch advocate for sobriety. He is expected to firmly support Han Geum-joo (played by Choi Soo-young) in her wavering resolve to stay sober.
Regarding his choice to participate in “Please Stop Drinking,” Gong Myung said, “I was excited to work with director Jang Yu-jung and writer Myung Soo-hyun, but above all, the script was really fun,” adding, “I decided to participate because I felt I could show another side of myself through the character Seo Ui-jun.”
About the character Seo Ui-jun, he described him as “a person who is friendly, charming, and easily gets along with the villagers,” stating, “On the surface, he appears cheerful and kind, but he has a diverse charm with inner pain.”
As filming progressed, he naturally began to resemble Seo Ui-jun in some aspects. He recalled, “I have come to resemble Seo Ui-jun’s friendly personality a lot. Thanks to that, I was able to enjoy filming with my senior and fellow actors,” reminiscing about the cheerful atmosphere on set.
Additionally, Gong Myung expressed, “I wanted to appear more perfect and flawless than before, and since my character is a doctor, I wanted to convey a trustworthy image,” adding, “So, I consistently thought about how to express myself in a more restrained manner and enhance the sense of trust while acting,” revealing his unique passion for the role.
Finally, he shared a point to enjoy the drama even more: “The writer’s interesting script and the chemistry with senior and fellow actors are key points of the drama,” stating, “It’s a work filled with warm charms, including the lovely romance between Han Geum-joo and Seo Ui-jun, as well as strong family love, so I ask for a lot of anticipation and love.”
The new tvN Monday-Tuesday drama “Please Stop Drinking,” featuring Gong Myung as ‘Seo-nim’ Seo Ui-jun, will premiere on May 12, Monday, at 8:50 PM.
