‘PD Notebook’ sheds light on the urgent state of emergency declared on the 3rd.

At 10:30 PM on the 5th, MBC's current affairs program ‘PD Notebook’ will be broadcast. ‘PD Notebook’ usually airs every Tuesday at 10:20 PM, but due to the significance of this issue, it will be specially scheduled to air at 10 PM on Thursday, replacing the regular program ‘Save Me! Homes’.

This broadcast will feature the segment ‘Emergency Report: The Night of Seoul, State of Emergency’, capturing the unprecedented state of emergency declared for the first time in 45 years since 1979. On the 3rd at around 10:24 PM, President Yoon Suk-yeol held an emergency address at the Yongsan Presidential Office, stating that the National Assembly had become “a den of criminals and is attempting to paralyze the national judicial and administrative system through legislative dictatorship, aiming to overthrow the free democratic system.” He then declared a state of emergency “to eradicate the shameless pro-North anti-state forces at once and to protect the free constitutional order.”

Members of the National Assembly gathered in response to the emergency summons by Speaker Woo Won-sik. At around 1 AM on the 4th, a resolution demanding the lifting of the state of emergency was passed in a plenary session with 190 members present (172 from the opposition, 18 from the ruling party) and 190 votes in favor. President Yoon announced at around 4:27 AM that he would lift the state of emergency, and the resolution to lift the emergency was passed in the Cabinet meeting held at 4:30 AM.

Just two days after the outbreak of the situation, ‘PD Notebook’ will air at 10:30 PM on the 5th. Typically, ‘PD Notebook’ takes a minimum of two weeks to several months to produce a single episode. The production team’s rush to complete an episode in just two days raises curiosity about what content they are eager to deliver to viewers.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party announced that it would file charges of insurrection against President Yoon and push for impeachment. The Democratic Party and five other opposition parties reported the impeachment motion against President Yoon at the National Assembly plenary session held on the 5th, planning to put it to a vote on the 7th. The People Power Party held a general meeting of lawmakers on the night of the 4th and adopted a party line opposing the impeachment of President Yoon. The Democratic Party decided to present the special prosecution law regarding Kim Geon-hee, which was originally planned for a re-vote on the 10th, together on the 7th.
