American pop star Beyoncé has won the Grammy Award for 'Album of the Year.'
On the 2nd (local time), Beyoncé attended the 67th Grammy Awards held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, where she won the prestigious 'Album of the Year' award for her album 'Cowboy Carter.'
This is the first time Beyoncé has received the 'Album of the Year' trophy at the Grammys.
Previously, Beyoncé had been nominated for the Grammy Award for 'Album of the Year' four times but had not won. However, with this fifth nomination, she showcased her unwavering musicality and influence by becoming the winner in this category.
With this win, Beyoncé has now been awarded a total of 35 Grammys, maintaining her status as the most awarded artist in Grammy history.
On this day, Beyoncé also won Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance, making history. Notably, she added significance by winning the 'Best Country Album' award, which has been considered the domain of white artists.
Beyoncé expressed her gratitude, saying, "I thank the country artists who accepted this album as it is. I think it’s great to work passionately regardless of genre," adding, "It’s so amazing and I’m grateful."
With 'Cowboy Carter,' Beyoncé topped both the Billboard overall chart and the album chart. This marks the first time a Black woman has reached the top of the Billboard Country Album chart since its inception in 1964.
Additionally, Beyoncé's pre-released track 'Texas Hold'em' from the album also reached number one on the 'Billboard Hot Country Songs' chart.
Country music is a beloved genre in the U.S., but there has been controversy over whether Black artists have roots in country music, as it is often perceived as a genre exclusive to white artists.
Amidst this, Beyoncé has made history as the first Black female artist to dominate the country genre charts and win the prestigious 'Album of the Year' at the Grammys.
This award ceremony carries a special message to raise funds for recovery from the recent large-scale wildfire damage in Los Angeles and to honor the dedication of firefighters.
According to the American Recording Academy, the organizers of the Grammys, no K-pop artists were nominated for this year's awards.
