“I used to be someone who blamed myself a lot, but my mindset has changed a lot. I’ve come to accept failure and have become a slightly more proactive person who can move forward.”
Singer Eve (27, real name Ha Soo-young) expressed her thoughts on her solo activities. She recently released her second EP album ‘I Did’. The title track is ‘Viola’, which tells the story of Eve diving into the depths of her inner self and encountering multiple personas on a journey to find peace.
Eve said, “The most important thing in life for happiness is peace. I infused the emotions I faced at that time into the tracks. I truly needed some leisure for myself,” and added, “I hope listeners feel a sense of ease and comfort while listening to this new song.” During the album release, Eve appeared somewhat calm when she met with Maeil Business Newspaper’s Star Today.
Although she is a former member of LOONA, the atmosphere she exudes now feels closer to that of an attractive solo artist. Eve stated, “I wanted to honestly express my musical capabilities and the emotions inside me that I couldn’t show during group activities. I took time to reflect on myself and worked while thinking of happy music.”
Eve, who says she is happiest when singing, has already been in the industry for seven years. Although her solo debut was relatively short, having occurred this May, her passion for music is hotter than ever as it is a new challenge. Eve shared, “The joy of creating my own music, the pride I feel when I see the results, the happiness of recognizing my own achievements, and the many emotions I experience are all part of my fun days.”
Eve made a fresh start by signing with her current agency, Pikespermil, founded by producer Millic, in March. She mentioned that Millic told her, “Do what you want to do,” and said, “Since then, I’ve been able to let go of my burdens and face music in a more enjoyable way.”
Having steadily built her skills and experience as a member of LOONA, Eve believes that when singing as a solo artist, she must showcase a distinctly different vocal style and charm from what she previously had. “The sound I need to produce is completely different. In the team, I focused on lower tones, but as a solo artist, I’m in the stage of trying out all the voices I want to do and finding what I can do best,” she explained. As a result, Eve expressed satisfaction with the widening of her vocal spectrum and the enjoyment she finds in her solo activities.
Regarding her background as a member of LOONA, Eve said, “I’m grateful and approach it positively because it has become a part of how the public recognizes me now. Although I went through a year-long hiatus due to unavoidable circumstances, I’m just thankful that the team name kept reminding people of me.” LOONA faced a difficult time due to a lawsuit related to their previous agency's exclusive contract.
Eve mentioned that she shared her new music with the members and received feedback. She said, “Even though I didn’t tell them which track was the title song, they were able to recognize it after listening to all the tracks, which was surprising and appreciated. We usually give each other a lot of feedback not just on music but in various aspects, so it was a great support during this activity,” conveying her affection.
Fans are also supporting Eve’s solo activities. She expressed pride and gratitude when fans say, “This is a choice that’s so Eve,” or “This is a result of Eve’s music.” Eve stated, “I can’t fully understand the meaning behind the fans’ words, but I feel that there is trust in me, and I’m grateful for that. I thought I could continue to move forward in the next process.”
Eve described being a singer as a profession that is not easy to remain calm in. Therefore, she said she tries to engage in static activities outside of her singing career. Her unique passion, which allows her to pour all her energy into her work, was evident.
So, what does she hope to gain from this activity? Eve said, “I want to become a stable person. I also want to feel satisfaction in my music. While I can’t say I’ve completely let go of my attachment to external metrics and results, I hope that when the activities are over, I won’t have any regrets. If fans say, ‘It was good,’ it will give me the motivation to continue my activities.”
Eve revealed that her parents were strongly opposed to her pursuing a singing career. Reflecting on that time, she said, “I felt like I would really die if I didn’t become a singer, and I still feel the same way as I did when I was 17. There’s no other reason; it’s just something I’m drawn to enough to endure all the hardships.”
This shows that Eve is a sincere and dedicated veteran singer who pours her heart into her activities. What are her goals? Eve stated, “The year felt like a 10-year hiatus. It felt like I was chained up. I wanted to emotionally release that part, and I’m finally walking that path. I aim to be a more free singer on stage, taking on more challenges than before.”
