A sequel to the Disney Pixar animated film 'Coco', which touched audiences worldwide, is in production.
Disney CEO Bob Iger officially announced on the 20th (local time) during the annual shareholders meeting that 'Coco 2' is in the works.
According to the announcement, 'Coco 2' is currently in the early stages of development, and the plot has not been revealed, with a release date set for 2029.
Director Lee Unkrich, who directed the first film, will once again take the helm, and Adrian Molina, who co-wrote the first film, will also be involved. Mark Nielsen, known for producing 'Toy Story 4' and 'Inside Out 2', will take on the role of producer.
Bob Iger added, "Although it is still in the development stage, I am confident that 'Coco 2' will showcase a rich blend of humor and heartwarming adventures. I look forward to sharing more news soon."
Released in 2017, 'Coco' tells the touching story of a 12-year-old boy named Miguel who encounters ancient mystical beings while living in a rural area of Mexico. It won the Best Animated Feature at the 90th Academy Awards and the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature at the 75th Golden Globes. The film was also a box office success, grossing $800 million worldwide.
