The power of true stories and authenticity resonated. ‘Firefighter’ has ranked 1st for three consecutive days.
According to the data from the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the 7th, the film ‘Firefighter’ (directed by Kwak Kyung-taek) attracted 112,029 viewers on the 6th, securing the top spot at the box office. The cumulative audience count is 286,887.
Released on the 4th, ‘Firefighter’ depicts the situation of firefighters who were deployed during the 2001 Hongje-dong fire disaster, facing harsh conditions with the singular goal of extinguishing the fire and rescuing everyone. The film is also running a ‘119 Won Donation Challenge’ where ticket sales will be donated to the National Fire Hospital, set to be completed in 2025.
‘Firefighter’ has a seat occupancy rate of 22.6%, nearly double that of ‘Moana 2’. It started with a CGV Golden Egg Index (real viewer rating) of around 92% on its opening day, but has since risen to 94% on the third day of release, attracting attention through word of mouth.
In 2nd place is the Disney animation ‘Moana 2’ (directed by David G. Derrick Jr.), which attracted 83,357 viewers on the same day, bringing its cumulative audience count to 1,678,151.
‘Moana 2’ follows Moana, who receives an unexpected call from her ancestors and embarks on a perilous adventure with the legendary hero Maui and new crew members to break the curse of a hidden ancient island to prevent the destruction of her tribe.
In 3rd place is the musical film ‘Wicked’ (directed by Jon M. Chu), which attracted 36,514 viewers, bringing its cumulative audience count to 1,350,473.
‘Wicked’ tells the story of Elphaba, who has yet to discover her true power, and Glinda, who has not yet realized her true nature, as the two very different characters build a friendship while facing unexpected crises and adventures. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande star in the film.
In 4th place is ‘One Win’ (directed by Shin Yeon-sik), starring Song Kang-ho, which attracted 27,637 viewers, bringing its cumulative audience count to 120,095.
Released on the same day as ‘Firefighter’, ‘One Win’ tells the story of a professional women's volleyball team with a director who has never won, an owner who has no intention of winning, and players who don’t know how to win, as they challenge themselves for a single victory.
In 5th place is ‘Hidden Face’ (directed by Kim Dae-woo), starring Song Seung-heon, Jo Yeo-jeong, and Park Ji-hyun, which attracted 23,890 viewers, bringing its cumulative audience count to 841,504.
‘Hidden Face’ is a closed-room thriller where Seong-jin, who is searching for his missing fiancée Su-yeon, encounters Su-yeon's junior Mi-joo, and witnesses Su-yeon, who he thought was missing, trapped in a secret space closest to them, revealing her true self.
Currently, the ticket reservation rankings show ‘Moana 2’ (30.6%) and ‘Firefighter’ (19.9%) in 1st and 2nd place, respectively. 3rd place is ‘Wicked’ (12.2%), followed by ‘One Win’ (9.4%).
