Real-life university student Seo Hyun embodies a minor character in a romance novel.
The new KBS2 drama 'The Male Lead's First Night' (written by Jeon Seon Young, directed by Lee Woong Hee and Kang Soo Yeon), which is set to premiere on June 11, features a 'no-brake' romance fantasy drama where the soul of an ordinary university student inhabits a minor character in a romance novel and spends a night with the novel's most obsessive male lead.
In the drama, Seo Hyun plays the role of a minor character, Cha Seon Taek, who possesses both status and wealth in a romance novel set in the Joseon Dynasty. The minor character, who lived without presence, is reborn as a completely different person when the soul of a passionate reader, university student K, inhabits her body.
K, who was content to observe the protagonists' story from the closest position in Cha Seon Taek's body, gradually becomes a central figure in the novel as she gets caught up in unexpected events. The focus is on whether K, who has entered Cha Seon Taek's body, can restore the deviated story to its original path, as her unpredictable actions infused with modern sensibilities draw attention.
The released photos sequentially capture the transformation from real-life university student K to the character Cha Seon Taek in the novel. First, K, wearing glasses and a hoodie while reading a web novel, shows a blank expression that reflects the monotony of her repetitive daily life. In contrast, Cha Seon Taek, with K's soul, has an intriguing smile, raising expectations for her activities as she steps up from a minor character to a protagonist.
Attention is also drawn to Seo Hyun's acting transformation, which will delicately portray the changes in K, the novel's Cha Seon Taek, and the Cha Seon Taek after K's possession. Seo Hyun stated, "I was attracted to the comic yet tense story between characters, and the charm of a character that is lovable and sometimes even eccentric," explaining her reason for choosing the project.
Regarding the character Cha Seon Taek, she introduced her as "a character who has been hurt by people in modern times, but after being possessed by the novel, she momentarily feels confused but accepts that moment as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. She is a character who grows through numerous experiences and challenges." This is because Cha Seon Taek, who dreamed of a new life, lives a completely opposite daily life after meeting K's soul.
Seo Hyun revealed that she prepared three distinct characters: real-life university student K, the minor character Cha Seon Taek before possession, and Cha Seon Taek after becoming the protagonist. "Modern K has a pessimistic side but is a relatable character; the pre-possession Cha Seon Taek is set as a character with emptiness in her monotonous life, and the post-possession Cha Seon Taek is portrayed as a character who realizes she is in a novel and freely engages in actions she couldn't do in reality," she explained, highlighting her acting points. This detailed effort by Seo Hyun raises curiosity about the story of K and Cha Seon Taek.
'The Male Lead's First Night' will air on June 11 at 9:50 PM.
