American lawyer and broadcaster Seo Dong-joo mentioned her late father, Seo Se-won.
On the 17th, a video titled "Dad's death, Mom's battle with cancer... How she learned to love life amidst failure and despair" was posted on the YouTube channel 'Wiracle'.
As a guest, Seo Dong-joo began, "I think I had a good family environment when I was young. I was well-off, and my parents' relationship wasn't bad."
She continued, "After my father returned from jail in 2002, I felt that many things changed drastically. They said he came back as a different person. I think that was when the hardships began for our family."
She mentioned the shocking news of Seo Se-won's death in Cambodia in 2023, saying, "The shock was so great that I didn't know what emotions to feel. I usually suppress my emotions," adding, "I felt a sense of futility. A person can disappear from this world in an instant."
She continued, "Until then, my relationship with my dad wasn't good, so there was both hatred and love. When the person who caused those feelings disappears, I lose a place for my emotions. So even though I don't cry much, I struggled."
Seo Se-won passed away from cardiac arrest while receiving an IV at a hospital in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in April 2023, at the age of 67.
Seo Se-won debuted in 1979 and gained much love as the host of KBS2's 'Seo Se-won Show' from 1996 to 2002.
However, he left the entertainment industry amid allegations of embezzlement of film production funds, fleeing abroad, and controversies over overseas gambling. In 2015, he was sentenced to six months in prison with a two-year probation for habitual assault against his wife, Seo Jeong-hee.
