Hyun Bong-sik revealed the reason he became an actor.
On the afternoon of the 18th, during the MBC entertainment program ‘What Do You Do When You Play?’ (directed by Kim Jin-yong, Jang Woo-sung, Jang Hyo-jong, Wang Jong-seok, written by Choi Hye-jung), Yoo Jae-suk invited Hyun Bong-sik as a member of the Insa (fan) group.
In that broadcast, Hyun Bong-sik, who said he quit judo, responded, “I think I was just chasing money after graduation. I was only looking for jobs that paid well or made money. But it made me think in a narrow way.”
He continued, “Around the age of 27 or 28, while working as an installation technician at a Samsung subcontractor, I was training in Suwon and during a situational play, I found acting to be fun. I thought that no matter what I did in Korea, I wouldn’t starve to death, so I decided to do something fun,” revealing the reason he became an actor.
He said, “While wandering around, I found a job posting that really caught my eye. It said, ‘If you want to be an actor, challenge yourself.’ It was for a supporting role, but when I went, they didn’t use me. However, I was rejected four times. A few days later, I got a call asking if I could play a thug role, and I said I could. It was a 0.5-second flashback scene in ‘Vampire Prosecutor,’” explaining that he started from the bottom.
MBC’s ‘What Do You Do When You Play?’ airs every Saturday at 6:30 PM.
