Actor Kim Soo-hyun (37) revealed that he had a real girlfriend during his military service, not actress Kim Sae-ron, and shared related diary entries.
Kim Soo-hyun's legal representative, lawyer Ko Sang-rok, stated on the 30th through a YouTube channel, "This letter is written based on the facts confirmed through the agency and the results of meticulous verification of objective materials to restore the actor's damaged reputation and correct distorted facts," and partially disclosed diary letters that Kim Soo-hyun sent to his actual girlfriend during his military service.
Lawyer Ko revealed that Kim Soo-hyun had a girlfriend from 2016 to the spring of 2019, explaining, "The diary, which started right after his assignment, became letters sharing daily life and conveying feelings with his girlfriend from that spring."
The diary-format letters amounted to about 150 until the spring of 2019.
The disclosed letters included messages such as, "I really want to write your name... I can't write your name because I'm too obsessed, but I really want to write it. I love you," "As expected, I want to hear from you, and when I do, I want to see you and hold you. It's just perfect for military life. I love you, as always!", and "Every day I feel a reality check in the unit, but one thing is clear. I think I'm treating her better than before I enlisted. I'm focusing only on her, wanting, and waiting for her without thinking about anything else." These letters reflect Kim Soo-hyun's feelings for his girlfriend.
Lawyer Ko emphasized, "The 'letter written by the actor to the deceased during military service' is not a letter sent to a girlfriend," and pointed out, "It is more like a record of daily life, determination, and plans after discharge, rather than correspondence between lovers."
In a letter sent to his girlfriend on July 30, 2018, Kim Soo-hyun wrote, "I will definitely travel with her this time next year. New and things I've never done before. I will do everything with her," and on August 3, 2018, he wrote, "I think I'm treating her better than before I enlisted. (Omitted) I keep missing her and wanting to see her, and I am very grateful that I can make her feel good and happy."
Regarding this, lawyer Ko stated, "The actor specifically imagined traveling and developing his relationship with his girlfriend after discharge, and the writings he left clearly distinguish a continuous and serious relationship with his girlfriend from the letters sent to the deceased."
As for the photos of Kim Soo-hyun that the deceased posted on social media and later deleted, it was claimed that they were photos from her adult years.
Meanwhile, Kim Soo-hyun has been embroiled in allegations of 'minor relationship' since it was claimed that he was in a romantic relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron, who was 15 years old in 2016.
In response, Kim Soo-hyun's side acknowledged the relationship with the deceased but denied the part regarding her being a minor. They also criticized the evidence presented by the bereaved family as being fabricated. Furthermore, they suggested legal action, claiming that the recordings disclosed by the bereaved family during a press conference were forged using AI technology.
