
Comedian Kim Hak-rae reminisced about the late Jeon Yoo-seong and shared the last conversation they had.
On the special broadcast of KBS1's 'Morning Forum with Viewers' aired on the 30th, Kim Hak-rae expressed his heartfelt feelings towards the late comedian, who was referred to as the 'Father of Comedy' and 'Godfather of Korean Comedy'.
Creator Kim Do-yoon revealed during the broadcast that he decided to appear on 'Morning Forum' for his father, who was battling illness in the hospital, but sadly passed away ten days ago, evoking sympathy.
In response, Kim Hak-rae said, “We also sent off our senior Jeon Yoo-seong, who was called the father of comedians, to the heavens the day before yesterday,” recalling the late comedian's final moments.
He continued, “The last thing he said to me was, ‘Hyung, it’s no different. We’ll be going soon too,’ and then he said, ‘Okay, let’s meet there,’ and just left.”
Additionally, he expressed, “I am truly grateful that the entire nation mourned together. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone.”
Jeon Yoo-seong passed away from a pneumothorax at Jeonbuk National University Hospital on the 25th, at the age of 76. His burial site has been established in Inwol-myeon, Namwon, Jeonbuk, where he lived during his lifetime.
Jeon Yoo-seong debuted as a comedy writer for TBC's 'Show Show Show' in 1969 and rose to stardom as a comedian through shows like 'Humor No. 1' and 'Show Video Jockey'. He was the first to use the term 'gagman' instead of 'comedian' and is well-known as the founder of KBS's representative comedy program 'Gag Concert'. He also served as a professor in the Department of Comedy at Yewon Arts University, nurturing talents like Kim Shin-young and Jo Se-ho.
