Singer Koo Jun-yup has finally opened up to local media while enduring a painful time after losing his wife, the late Seo Hee-won.
According to multiple media outlets in the Chinese-speaking world on the 30th, Koo Jun-yup recently visited Seo Hee-won's grave with close friends of Korean nationality.
Seo Hee-won's grave is located in the Jinbao Mountain (Golden Treasure Mountain) cemetery in New Taipei City, Taiwan, and it is reported that they stayed by her side for over an hour. Koo Jun-yup has been visiting the grave consistently for seven months since the late Seo Hee-won was laid to rest.
A reporter asked Koo Jun-yup, “Do you often dream of your wife?” to which Koo Jun-yup replied, “Of course.” This was particularly newsworthy as it was the first time he briefly shared his feelings with the media since losing his wife.
According to local media, Koo Jun-yup is working on sketches at Seo Hee-won's grave, which is said to be for a statue of the late Seo Hee-won. Local media reported that this statue is likely to be completed in time for the first anniversary of Seo Hee-won's passing next year.
A source stated, “Koo Jun-yup is communicating with friends to gain inspiration while preparing for Seo Hee-won's statue.” It is reported that he brings snacks that Seo Hee-won liked during her lifetime, candles, and couple photos to the grave.
Seo Hee-won was a beloved singer and actress who starred as the female lead in the Taiwanese version of “Boys Over Flowers.” Koo Jun-yup and Seo Hee-won dated for about a year in 1998 before breaking up. Later, Seo Hee-won married Chinese businessman Wang Shao-bi in 2001 and had a son and a daughter, but they divorced in 2021. Upon hearing this news, Koo Jun-yup reached out to Seo Hee-won's old number, and the two dramatically reunited and married in 2022.
Their love story was like a drama, but they could not escape tragedy. Seo Hee-won passed away from acute pneumonia during a trip to Japan last February, leaving Koo Jun-yup in deep sorrow, refusing to eat or drink. He has been visiting the Golden Treasure Mountain where his wife's remains are laid to rest every day and is reported to be working on a statue in her honor.
