Baek Kang-hyun, a genius with an IQ of 204, announced that he is applying to the University of Oxford in the UK.
On the 6th, Baek posted a video titled “I am applying to Oxford University” on his YouTube channel.
Baek, who has been preparing for studying abroad in the UK for the past year and a half, expressed his hope to be accepted into the Computer Science program at Oxford University, stating, “I have been studying for the International A-level exams. I received the highest grade, A*, in all four subjects: Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry,” and revealed his report card.
In this regard, Baek explained that his grades are within the top 1%, saying, “On October 23, I will take the MAT, the entrance exam for Oxford University, and I have consistently scored between 98 and 100 points in past exam questions,” which drew surprise.
However, age is a barrier to admission to Oxford University. Baek stated, “To apply, I have to go through the UK university admissions service (UCAS), but those under 13 cannot register for UCAS. I cannot even take the MAT exam.”
The MAT is a mathematics entrance exam administered by Oxford University and several other UK universities for applicants in mathematics and related fields.

Baek, who directly called the UCAS officials and emailed the admissions office at Oxford University, reported, “Currently, the Oxford University staff are being very kind and doing their best for someone as young as me.”
Baek mentioned, “If I do well on the exam and receive an interview invitation, I will have the notoriously difficult Oxford University interview between early and mid-December.”
He explained, “In January next year, the final acceptance results will be announced, taking into account the A-level and MAT scores, personal statement, recommendation letters, and interview evaluations.”
Born in 2012, Baek appeared on SBS’s ‘Genius Discovery’ at 41 months old, recording an IQ of 204, which placed him in the top 0.0001% of geniuses.
Afterward, he made headlines by entering middle school at the age of 9 and enrolling in Seoul Science High School.
However, he dropped out after just one semester in early 2023. At that time, Baek stated through his YouTube channel, “I see myself becoming a machine that solves problems in the mirror,” and decided to drop out for creative activities.
However, Baek's father revealed, “The reason for my son's dropout is due to school violence,” which sparked controversy.
