The team of 'The Tyrant's Chef' has apologized for the Chinese character error.
On the 25th, the production team of tvN's weekend drama 'The Tyrant's Chef' (written by fGRD, directed by Jang Tae-yu) released an official statement saying, "There was an error in the Chinese character notation of 'Taepyeongseongdae' during the broadcast of episode 1 of 'The Tyrant's Chef'." They added, "The production team is aware of the situation and is currently working on corrections, which will be reflected in re-broadcasts and VOD services as soon as the corrections are completed."
They also stated, "We will pay more attention to the production and review process to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. We apologize for the confusion caused."
The controversial scene occurred when Yeon Ji-young (played by Lim Yoona) encounters Lee Heon in Joseon. In this scene, the flag incorrectly displayed 'Taepyeongseongdae (太平聖代)' as '太平聖大'. The last character should have been '代', which means 'era', but instead, '大', which means 'big', was used.
Netizens reacted with comments such as, "How can they not write 'Taepyeongseongdae' correctly in Chinese characters while making a historical drama?", "Are they illiterate?", "It's really disappointing", "I found the error and it's funny", "I'm embarrassed since many Chinese people must have watched it".
Meanwhile, 'The Tyrant's Chef' is a survival fantasy rom-com about a top chef who time slips to the past and meets a tyrant king with absolute taste. It airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 PM.
