A 20-Year-Old Korean Student Arrested for Filming 'Demon Slayer' in a Japanese Movie Theater

A 20-year-old Korean student studying in Japan has been arrested by local police for secretly filming the animated movie 'Demon Slayer: Mugen Train' (hereafter referred to as Mugen Train) in a movie theater.

On the 21st, Kyodo News reported this information. According to the Otsuka Police Station of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, Mr. S, a Korean national living in Tokyo, is suspected of infringing copyright by secretly filming Mugen Train with his smartphone at a theater in Shinjuku on the 18th of last month.

Previously, Mr. S was arrested on the 30th of last month for purchasing about 200 Blu-ray discs containing the animation using someone else's credit card.

During the investigation, police discovered approximately 2 hours and 35 minutes of footage of Mugen Train that Mr. S had filmed on his confiscated smartphone.

Mr. S is currently denying the charges, and the police plan to conduct further investigations into the details and motives.

The release date for this movie in Korea is today (22nd). According to the integrated ticketing system of the Korean Film Council, 'Mugen Train' is overwhelmingly in first place with a real-time reservation rate of 82.8% as of 9 AM today. The number of reservations is nearing an impressive 900,000.
