BTS members V and Jungkook are set to have a mediation session on the damages lawsuit they filed against the operator A of the YouTube channel 'Anti-Fandom Shelter' on the 21st, raising expectations for a possible agreement.
According to a report by Maeil Business Star Today on the 3rd, the mediation session for the damages lawsuit filed by V, Jungkook, and their agency Big Hit Music against A is scheduled to take place at 9:40 AM on the 21st at the Seoul Western District Court.
Previously, Big Hit Music, V, and Jungkook filed a damages lawsuit claiming that A posted defamatory videos containing false information on the YouTube channel 'Anti-Fandom Shelter', infringing on their portrait rights and obstructing the agency's work, seeking approximately 100 million won in damages.
In the first trial held in February, the court ruled that A must pay 51 million won to Big Hit Music, 10 million won to V, and 15 million won to Jungkook, and also ordered A to bear the delayed interest and litigation costs.
In response, A submitted an appeal against the first trial ruling to pay a total of 76 million won, and the second trial court referred the case to mediation on the 16th.
Referring a case to mediation is a procedure where the court encourages mediation instead of litigation to resolve disputes, aiming to facilitate voluntary agreements between the parties. The mediation document created during this process has the same legal effect as a final judgment under Article 28 of the Civil Procedure Act.
Meanwhile, A is also facing civil and criminal trials for spreading false information and defaming other individuals, including IVE's Jang Wonyoung, and the YouTube channel has since been deleted. A was sentenced to 2 years in prison with a 3-year probation in the first trial of the criminal case, and the appeal is currently ongoing.
