The police are investigating comedian Lee Kyung-kyu (65) on charges of drug driving.
According to MBN on the 24th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul has summoned Lee Kyung-kyu for questioning on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act.
On the afternoon of the 8th, around 2 PM, Lee Kyung-kyu mistakenly drove another person's car of the same model as his own due to an error by a parking attendant at an indoor golf practice facility in Gangnam, Seoul.
After receiving a report of suspected vehicle theft, the police conducted a breath and drug test on Lee Kyung-kyu, which resulted in a positive reaction in the drug screening test. It is reported that the National Forensic Service later provided the police with a confirmation of the positive result.
In relation to the incident, Lee Kyung-kyu's side stated that he only took prescribed cold and flu medication and medication for panic disorder, but the police stated, “Even if the medication is normally prescribed, there are regulations regarding drug driving in the Road Traffic Act that prohibit driving if there is a risk of being unable to drive due to its effects,” and have been conducting a pre-investigation.
The police are examining whether Lee Kyung-kyu was driving under the influence of drugs through black box footage and CCTV, and plan to confirm the allegations based on testimonies.
Currently, Lee Kyung-kyu is appearing on programs such as TV Chosun’s ‘Modern Historical Mystery’ and Channel A’s ‘Find the Secret to Success: Boss Attack’.
