‘Oh Eun-young Stay’ shared heartfelt confessions from participants who poured out their desperate stories.
On the 23rd, the first broadcast of MBN's 30th anniversary national consolation project ‘Oh Eun-young Stay’ featured the first group of participants, showcasing Dr. Oh Eun-young's warm leadership and the genuine empathy of Go So-young and Moon Se-yoon, heralding the arrival of a sincere healing program.
On this day, Go So-young appeared with a shy smile, taking selfies against various backgrounds in the filming location and saying, “Everything is so fascinating,” showcasing her novice variety show personality and bringing laughter. Upon seeing Go So-young, Moon Se-yoon exclaimed, “Oh, I’ve succeeded,” revealing his fanboy side, and when he learned that Go So-young was 10 years older, he jokingly said, “We should consider ourselves peers,” making Go So-young burst into laughter. Dr. Oh Eun-young then appeared, sharing warm hugs with the two and expressing her affection for them and the program, raising expectations for their future journey.
The three then arrived at the main venue for the stay, the millennium-old temple ‘Sanggyesa,’ where participants carrying their own wounds gathered. First, the ‘30s trainee’ was a man who spent his 20s preparing to debut as an idol but never did, while the ‘man who gave up on marriage’ expressed, “People approach me like a transaction. They want to know my background or financial status, not my thoughts or hobbies,” revealing his feelings of emptiness in human relationships.
The ‘One Table’ shared that he eventually went out of business due to the flood of malicious comments after appearing on SBS’s ‘Baek Jong-won’s Grocery Restaurant,’ and the ‘Germ-Free Man’ shocked everyone with his cleanliness obsession, washing not only his groceries but even his phone.
The ‘Mask Girl’ tearfully shared, “I’m scared to show my face in front of people due to my appearance obsession,” while ‘Nail Biter’ mentioned that for some reason, he has been unable to break the habit of biting his nails since childhood, saying, “I’m scared my baby will imitate me while raising them.” ‘Curfew at 40’ revealed, “I’ve never come home after 10 PM. My mother worries...” surprising everyone.
To uplift their spirits, the first lunch was prepared by Go So-young, who took on the role of the main chef, donning an apron she brought and making spicy rice with a waffle maker. Go So-young showed her attentiveness by preparing tortillas for a participant with a rice allergy, but when her first attempt failed, she laughed and asked for editing, bringing about a burst of laughter. As participants praised Go So-young’s spicy rice, they moved on to the heart-opening session.
During the ‘Auto Talk’ time amidst the serene scenery of the ancient temple, Dr. Oh Eun-young encouraged participants to share the stories in their hearts, saying, “No one will judge or criticize you. I will just listen sincerely.” Participants wrote down their wounds as keywords and placed them in a mailbox, with ‘One Table’ pulling out the keyword ‘bad luck.’ He tearfully shared that after appearing on a program aimed at revitalizing local businesses, “I was portrayed differently from my true self and received unimaginable malicious comments.” Ultimately, ‘One Table’ not only closed his shop but also broke up with his girlfriend of four years, expressing, “It felt like my heart was melting,” revealing a deep wound that left everyone silent.
Dr. Oh Eun-young carefully explained, “People experience various losses in life, whether it be health, wealth, or honor. Loss can lead to depression, and anger can cover that depression, leading to self-harm.” She continued, “Whether it’s self-harm or neglecting health, it ultimately leads to self-destruction. Those people are strangers, so don’t form negative connections and let it go. Right now, finding your true self is the most important thing. No one can diminish your value,” she reassured. In response, ‘One Table’ said, “This really gives me strength,” becoming emotional and resonating with others.
The ‘30s trainee’ shared, “I spent my 20s preparing to debut as an idol but ultimately did not,” pulling out the keyword ‘adult man’ and cautiously mentioning the violence and trauma he experienced from his father. He confessed, “My dad was an alcoholic since kindergarten, and I experienced domestic violence,” adding, “I even witnessed my mom attempting extreme measures,” revealing his shattered childhood.
Dr. Oh Eun-young firmly warned, “Children of parents with alcohol problems have a 50% chance of experiencing the same issues. Don’t drink a drop of alcohol. Absolutely not,” and continued, “It’s not your fault. You shouldn’t have to bear that burden. It’s so heartbreaking,” as she swallowed her tears alongside him. She added, “Our lives become similar when we add and subtract happiness and unhappiness. Yet, you have come this far,” offering applause and encouragement.
Just as the story of ‘Curfew at 40’ was about to be introduced, the door opened, and the production team called out in a tense voice, “Teacher… just a moment. Your mother has arrived,” adding to the participant’s shock and hinting at a new turning point. Thus, the first broadcast of ‘Oh Eun-young Stay’ touched viewers’ hearts with a heavier reality, deeper empathy, and quieter resonance than expected. It conveyed that listening to someone’s sincerity could save a life, leaving anticipation for the next episode.
