Hollywood actor Tom Cruise (62) will embrace his first Oscar (Academy Award) trophy.

On the 17th (local time), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced the recipients of this year's Academy Honorary Awards on its official website.

The awardees are Tom Cruise, choreographer Debbie Allen, and production designer Wynn Thomas. Legendary singer Dolly Parton will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

The Academy Honorary Award is presented to honor lifetime achievements, outstanding contributions, or exceptional service to the Academy in the field of film arts and sciences. The ceremony will take place at the 16th Governors Awards on November 16.

Academy President Janet Yang stated, "This year's Governors Awards honors four legends who have had a profound impact on the film industry," adding, "Debbie Allen is a choreographer and actress who spans generations, and Tom Cruise has inspired everyone with his dedication to the theatrical experience and the stunt community. Dolly Parton embodies the spirit of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award through her humanitarian efforts, and Wynn Thomas has created works that will remain in film history with his unique vision and craftsmanship."

She continued, "The Academy Board is honored to recognize these outstanding artists."

The Academy described Tom Cruise as "one of the most well-known and successful actors of all time," noting that he "led the industry during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic and demonstrated deep craftsmanship by performing all his own stunts."

With this honorary award, Tom Cruise will finally embrace his first Oscar trophy. He was nominated for Best Actor for the film "Born on the Fourth of July" in 1990, for "Jerry Maguire" in 1997, and for Best Supporting Actor for "Magnolia" in 2000. Additionally, in 2023, he was nominated for Best Picture for "Top Gun: Maverick," but did not win.

In this regard, the AP reported, "After 35 years since Tom Cruise first became an Oscar nominee, he will finally receive the trophy," highlighting the significance of this award.
