Creator Yumdaeng (40, real name Lee Chae-won) confessed that she underwent a hysterectomy.
On the 4th, Yumdaeng posted a lengthy message on her Instagram account saying, "I haven't been updating much lately, right? Actually, I had a hysterectomy in May."
She explained, "I knew I had uterine fibroids and adenomyosis, but I thought it wasn't a big problem as long as I could endure the pain, so I kept postponing it. However, recently my periods have extended to nearly 20 days with heavy bleeding, which led to severe anemia. The fibroid grew to 8cm and started pressing against my bladder and transplanted kidney, making it impossible to carry on with daily life. I also heard for the first time that if fibroids grow, they can turn into cancer. I was diagnosed with suspected cancer at the first hospital."
She continued, "I quickly scheduled the surgery, but because my kidney was located where the robotic arm would go, I had to undergo an open surgery. (I ended up with another scar). They cut open my abdomen, and while they wanted me to walk, I already knew from experience that the sooner I walked, the faster I would recover, so I started walking slowly in the hallway from the day of the surgery. They thought recovery would be slow since I was a transplant patient, but I received compliments that I seemed to be recovering three times faster than an average person. I believe it's thanks to my careful attention to my diet and health."
Yumdaeng also said, "Honestly, I had many concerns, but now that it's done, I feel really relieved. It's foolish to postpone my health for the excuse of being busy or because the situation isn't right. For those who are struggling with similar concerns, please don't ignore the signals your body is sending and make sure to go to the hospital for a check-up. I hope to give a little courage to those who are facing similar issues."
Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that occur in the muscle layer of the uterus and are a representative hormone-dependent disease influenced by female hormones. Common symptoms include increased menstrual flow, pelvic pain, and anemia. There may also be cases without symptoms. Depending on the patient's condition and symptoms, various treatment methods such as medication or surgery are available.
Yumdaeng had a son with her first husband but got divorced. She married creator Daedoseogwan in 2015 but divorced in 2023.
