Karina of the girl group aespa has clarified the controversy regarding her political color, but the "shout out" from supporters of the People Power Party continues.
On the 29th, Jeon Han-gil, a former Korean history instructor, released a video on his SNS titled "We will protect aespa's Karina."
The video features Jeon Han-gil mentioning the controversy surrounding Karina through his channel 'Jeon Han-gil News'. He read comments such as "Please protect Karina, Jeon Han-gil" and "Karina played a role ten times greater than Jeon Han-gil," showing his support for her.
On the 27th, Karina posted a photo on SNS wearing an outfit with a red number 2. As the 21st presidential election was underway, netizens reacted by suggesting that the photo was a political statement. Some interpreted it as a sign of support for the People Power Party through the red color and the number 2.
Although the photo was soon deleted, the controversy continued, and on the 28th, Karina stated on the fan communication platform Bubble, "I had no such intention at all, but I thought I needed to speak directly because the misunderstanding has grown so much and my fans (My, aespa's fandom name) are very worried." She added, "In the future, I will be more careful and pay more attention to my actions."
Despite Karina's clarification, the People Power Party continues to express support for her. Lee Soo-jung, the head of the Suwon branch of the People Power Party, publicly supported her, saying, "If you touch Karina, you will all die," and "It's not worth worrying about the hypocrisy of the hypocrites."
Baek Ji-won, spokesperson for the People Power Party's central election committee, also shared aespa's song "Supernova," saying, "SHOUT OUT TO (a message of thanks)."
