SBS reporter Kang Kyung-yoon has filed a lawsuit against Kim Se-ui, the head of ‘Gaseyeon’ (Garo Sero Research Institute).
On the 8th, reporter Kang announced on her blog, “I have filed a lawsuit against Kim Se-ui of Gaseyeon,” adding, “I submitted the complaint today and earnestly requested that the investigation be conducted as quickly as possible.”
Reporter Kang expressed her frustration, stating, “What happened yesterday (the 7th) was quite shocking. I never expected Kim Se-ui to hold such a press conference. I had heard about the dangers of deep learning and deepfakes through the media, but I never thought it would become my issue.”
She continued, “Kim Se-ui held a press conference claiming to have received a ‘tip’ from a certain informant living in New Jersey, USA. This informant was not unfamiliar to me,” revealing, “In fact, this scammer had contacted me in early April.”
Kang stated, “I do not trust this type of informant, someone whose identity is unclear and who is after money. So I simply ignored it. I believed my acquaintances would do the same because it reeked of a so-called ‘scammer’.”
Previously, on the 7th, Kim Se-ui held a press conference and released an audio recording, claiming it was a conversation recorded in the U.S. on January 10 between the late Kim Sae-ron and the informant.
In response, Kang stated, “It was clearly manipulated using AI to mimic the deceased’s voice to fit a narrative.”
The conversation included sensitive content, discussing the late actor Kim Soo-hyun and personal matters related to Kang.
Kang emphasized, “Friends of the deceased who watched the press conference contacted me, saying, ‘Reporter, my friend is not someone who would use profanity like that’ and ‘I’m so confused and upset about why this is happening.’ The deep learning recording of the deceased is false without needing any analysis.”
Additionally, she refuted Kim Se-ui’s claim during the press conference that “SBS reporter Kang Kyung-yoon made a frightening visit to the informant’s home in New Jersey.”
Kang revealed, “My husband, who was watching the press conference, contacted me saying, ‘Quickly get your immigration records.’” She then disclosed her immigration records obtained online, covering the period from January 1 to May 5, 2025.
Furthermore, she stated, “I have never set foot in New Jersey. I have never even spoken to the informant because I found them suspicious,” adding, “This is not just to protect my honor, but I sincerely hope this hellish confusion comes to an end, and I wish for a swift police investigation.”
Meanwhile, the family of the late Kim Sae-ron claims that she and her ex-boyfriend Kim Soo-hyun were in a relationship for six years, insisting that Kim Soo-hyun acknowledge and sincerely apologize for their relationship during her minor years. They also stated that they have filed a lawsuit against Kim Soo-hyun for violating child welfare laws and for false accusations.
Initially, Kim Soo-hyun's side denied the dating rumors, but later acknowledged that they dated for about a year after Kim Sae-ron became an adult. Subsequently, they filed a defamation lawsuit against the family and an unidentified person who claims to be an ‘aunt,’ as well as against Kim Se-ui, seeking damages of 12 billion won. Additionally, they have reported Kim Se-ui for violating the stalking punishment law.
