A 50s man who defamed singer Kim Da-hyun online has been sentenced to a suspended prison term.

On the 16th, the Daegu District Court's 6th Criminal Division (Chief Judge Yoo Seong-hyun) sentenced Mr. A (58) to 4 months in prison with a 2-year probation for charges of defamation.

Mr. A was prosecuted for posting a total of 73 defamatory comments about Kim Da-hyun and 67 comments about her father, Kim Bong-gon, on the broadcasting station's internet viewer bulletin board over a period of 4 months starting from July 2023.

The court stated, “Due to the defendant's posts, it seems that the victims, especially the young victim Kim Da-hyun, have suffered a level of mental distress that is not easy to endure, thus the degree of blameworthiness is high,” explaining the reasons for the sentencing.

Kim Da-hyun debuted in 2020 with the single album 'Gyeongsanhanne' by the Cheonghakdong Traditional Music Sisters and gained attention by becoming the runner-up in MBN's 'Voice Trot' and winning the beauty title in TV Chosun's 'Tomorrow is Miss Trot 2'.
