Lee Hee-jun led the climax of ‘Bad Relationship’.

In the Netflix series ‘Bad Relationship’, released on the 4th, Lee Hee-jun plays the role of a ‘loan shark’ pushed to the brink in ‘The Curse of Debt’, portraying a character that oscillates between chilling madness and desperate survival instincts, leaving a strong and profound aftertaste.

In extreme situations, the loan shark tries to survive cunningly, being endlessly servile in front of the strong and cruel in front of the weak, a typical representation of the ‘strong preying on the weak’. Lee Hee-jun completed this complex character with dense acting, without letting emotions slip away.

Driven to the edge of life by investment failures and loan debts, the loan shark ultimately betrays his own kin. He plans to kill his father to collect the life insurance money and approaches Gil-ryong (played by Kim Sung-kyun) to commission the murder. Lee Hee-jun vividly portrays a character who, pushed to the brink by loan debts, becomes emotionally numb and makes choices that no human should ever make, delivering a heavy shock.

Outwardly calm and idealistic, he delicately unravels the inner turmoil of a character whose speech and gaze are intertwined with extreme anger and shattered self-esteem. In the short lines he delivers in front of Gil-ryong, he encapsulates resignation and madness, and in the scene with the insurance company employee, he creates uncomfortable tension with a forced smile that suppresses his emotions.

Especially from the beginning, his build-up of tension shines in the latter part. He carries out revenge, but the situation spirals out of control.

Trapped in an abandoned building, bound and covered in oil, he pleads for his life while still trying to evade responsibility, revealing the duality of the loan shark. Lee Hee-jun delivers a powerful performance that conveys a complex mix of fear, resignation, and the desire to survive, providing an intense level of immersion. At the same time, his condensed acting prowess overwhelms the viewers and crowns the climax.

In this way, Lee Hee-jun brings the character of the loan shark to life as a ‘pathetic and cowardly human’ that could exist somewhere in reality. He meticulously designs every detail, from speech patterns to hunched shoulders and the angle of his gaze, convincingly expressing the character's physical and mental collapse.

In particular, his unique dry speech and oddly twisted intonation reveal the character's psychology realistically, while his subtle gaze that quietly probes the other person and his breath control that elevates emotions in silence firmly supports the weight of the ‘psychological thriller’ genre.

Through ‘Bad Relationship’, Lee Hee-jun once again proves his broad acting spectrum and deep skills, portraying not a clichéd ‘villain’, but the complex reality of a human who abandons morality for survival, driving the suspense and reality of the entire work.
