Kwon Oh-jung confessed that he took a four-year hiatus to protect his family. His son, who has a rare developmental disability, has begun to walk the path of acting alongside his father.
Actor Kwon Oh-jung (53) appeared on Channel A's "Close Friends Documentary: Four-Person Dining Table," which aired on the 27th, and reunited with his long-time friend Shin Hyun-joon (56).
He started by saying that his whole family was unwell during the four-year hiatus, stating, "I only had the desire to save my family. I changed my phone number and wanted to spend time only with my family."
He continued, "Before that, I enjoyed drinking and partying, but I quit drinking and focused entirely on my wife and family. I spent 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with my wife for four years. We traveled together. Now, I have come out of the tunnel, and I met Shin Hyun-joon at the end of last year and started broadcasting again."
Regarding his son with a rare developmental disability, he said, "My son graduated from college in 2023. I thought high school would be the last. We visited hospitals all over the country. There were many unapproved and illegal treatments. He has symptoms, and as a parent, I felt that if we missed this, it could get worse. He was fine when he was young, but it has been progressively getting worse. No one knows what will happen. There is no data."
He added, "I thought high school would be the last, so I prepared a banner, but he wanted to go to college. He wants to make a girlfriend in college. My wife applied everywhere for a year. He got rejected everywhere. Then we received a call from somewhere saying there was a special admission for people with disabilities. I suggested we stop applying, but my wife submitted the application, and he got accepted right away."
Furthermore, he said, "Even if someone has physical disabilities, if they don't have intellectual disabilities, they can work. Even if the body is inconvenient, they can do it. If there are intellectual issues, they can still do it, but our child has both. Intellectual and physical." He added, "He also likes to draw and is interested in acting. I heard there was a place that teaches acting, so I contacted them, and my son started learning acting. He joined the same agency as senior actor Park Young-kyu."
