A woman in her 30s, referred to as A, who appeared on ‘I Am Solo’, has been sentenced to a fine for defaming a man in his 40s, referred to as B, who also participated in the program.
The Daegu District Court's Criminal Division 10 (Chief Judge Heo Jeong-in) sentenced A to a fine of 2 million won on the 9th for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. (defamation).
A was prosecuted for posting on social media (SNS) the contents of KakaoTalk conversations exchanged with B from November 16, 2023, to May of the following year, as well as KakaoTalk conversations B had with a third party, while also using abusive language.
A claimed that her actions of posting messages stating “B had sexual relations with another woman while he was dating me” were done in the hope that no woman would suffer sexually and were in the public interest.
However, the court stated, “Publishing and disseminating the private KakaoTalk messages of the victim with their real name goes far beyond what can be morally criticized regarding the victim,” and concluded, “Considering the degree of defamation and the impact of the medium, it cannot be seen as being in the public interest.”
