Following the controversy over actress Goo Hye-sun's 'attitude', the PD of 'Radio Star' has also clarified the situation.
On the 22nd, during a press conference celebrating the 900th episode of 'Radio Star' held at the new MBC building in Sangam, Mapo-gu, Seoul, PD Kim Myung-yeob addressed the 'attitude controversy' surrounding Goo Hye-sun that arose on the 15th.
PD Kim explained, “The attitude controversy is not something that should have arisen at all.” He added, “One of the PD's tasks is to monitor how the guests appear on screen and to ask if everything is okay. For example, Park Jun-hyung always wears sunglasses, and I ask him, ‘Is this okay? There’s some glare, would you like to wear something else?’ If the comments were problematic, we would have edited them out, but they were not.” This was in response to the controversy that arose when it was claimed that Goo Hye-sun did not listen to the PD and continued to wear a hat.
When Goo Hye-sun appeared on the show, Kim Gu-ra advised her, “Is there a lot of oil? If there’s a lot of oil, wouldn’t it be better to slick your hair back?” She responded, “The boiler broke today. I couldn’t wash my hair, so I wore a hat. The PD said it would be better to take off the hat for filming, but I’m in a situation where I can’t take it off right now.” Following this, some netizens reacted by saying, “She’s quite stubborn. If the employer asks you to take it off, you should,” and “It’s an attitude problem if the PD asked her to take it off, but she insists on wearing it,” leading to the 'attitude controversy.'
PD Kim also expressed, “(Goo Hye-sun) came early, did well in the reading, and communicated well, so the recording went really well. Her attitude was very good, but it’s unfortunate that it became a controversy. (At that time) I didn’t want to talk about it for fear it would become a bigger issue,” revealing his regret.
MC Kim Gu-ra also stated, “We didn’t say there was an attitude controversy, nor did Goo Hye-sun. It seems that the viewers pointed out something. I was surprised by the ‘attitude controversy.’ Isn’t an attitude something that’s off or crooked?” expressing his surprise.
He added, “(Goo Hye-sun) is someone with experience, so if she just laughed it off, that would have been enough. (But) I think she must be upset inside. If the subject of the controversy were someone more sensitive, it would have been harder for them,” expressing his concern. He also said, “It was a good broadcast, so if there’s a controversy, it’s not good for either side,” comforting Goo Hye-sun. Yoo Se-yoon playfully pointed out, “(Former MC) Yoon Jong-shin also wore hats a lot on the show. I saw it,” emphasizing that it wasn’t something to be controversial.
After the controversy over her wearing a hat, Goo Hye-sun also expressed her stance on social media on the 16th. She stated, “Wearing a fur hat due to personal circumstances on a variety show that is not a formal occasion is not a sign of bad attitude or rudeness; it is my freedom.” However, as the controversy continued despite her clarification, she deleted the post.
